Sri Lankan government forces killed at least 12 separatist Tamil Tiger rebels in fresh fighting in the north of the country, the Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

Government forces killed 10 rebels of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) at Muhamalai in the Jaffna peninsula on Monday during a raid on four rebel bunkers, the ministry said.

Four government soldiers were wounded in the fighting and another two Tiger rebels were killed at Weli Oya.
