Delegation of Supreme People's Court Visits Macao

A delegation of the Supreme People's Court paid a visit Tuesday to the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) to discuss how to cooperate in dealing with civil and commercial cases.

Ho Chio Meng, procurator-general of the Macao Procuratorate, briefed the 11-member delegation led by senior judge Yang Runshi on the scope of his functions and powers in handling the cases.

According to the Basic Law, the Macao SAR may, through consultations and in line with law, maintain judicial relations with the judicial organs of other parts of the country, and they may render assistance to each other.

Ho said that his procuratorate should establish closer cooperative mechanism with its counterparts in China's inland under the principle of "One Country, Two Systems" as soon as possible, in an effort to protect the interests of the people in the two places in increasing amount of civil and commercial contacts.

The delegation members will meet with president of the Court of Final Appeal and Secretary for Administration and Justice and Secretary for Security of the SAR government, visit the facilities of the Court of Third Instance and sit in on the hearing of some cases at the courts of first and second instances in the coming few days.
