Chinese Premier Concludes Visit to Thailand
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji concluded his four-day visit to Thailand and left Bangkok for Beijing on Tuesday.
Thai Deputy Prime Minister Pongpol Adireksarn and Minister of the Prime Minister's Office Somsak Thepsuthin saw him off at the Air Force Airport.
In a letter conveying thanks to Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, distributed upon his leaving, the Chinese premier said, "at the time when I and my entourage are about to leave Thailand, I, in the name of myself, the Chinese government and the Chinese people, once again present our most sincere thanks to you, the Thai government and the Thai people."
"During my visit to Thailand, I held cordial and fruitful talks with King of Thailand, the prime minister and other Thai leaders, and contacted widely with peoples from all walks of life here," he said." We also enjoyed warm and friendly reception from your government and your people, and were deeply impressed by the friendship which is described as 'the Thais and the Chinese are brothers.'"
"The visit is a complete success and I believer that through the close cooperation and unremitting efforts from both sides, the all-around cooperation of good neighborliness and mutual trust between the two countries will make greater achievements in the new century," Zhu said.
During his stay in Thailand since Saturday, Zhu held separate talks with Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, Thai House of Representatives Speaker Uthai Pimchaichon and Thai Senate Speaker Manoonkrit Roopkachorn on a wide spectrum of issues to further deepen and expand the mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields between China and Thailand.
He also had an audience with the King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej and met with several Thai politicians as well as leaders of the Chinese community in Thailand.
Thailand is the last leg of the Chinese premier's five-nation Asian tour which began on May 11 and included visits to Pakistan, Nepal, the Maldives, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
