Chinese Women's Quartet Wins Freestyle Relay at Asiad

Chinese women's quartet won the day's last swimming gold as they triumphed in the 4x200 meters freestyle relay at the East Asian Games Monday.

The Chinese team of Zhu Yingwen, Chen Hua, Xu Yanwei and Yang Yu clocked 8:02.37 for the title, beating Japan to the second place at 8:04.96. South Korea finished third at 8:20.35.

The Chinese quartet suffered an early scare in the final. They were outpaced by their Japanese counterparts and lagged more than 2 seconds behind after the first two legs.

But Xu Yanwei, fresh from her 100m freestyle victory earlier on the day, clocked 1:58.88 to narrowed the gap to 0.59 seconds while Yang Yu was timed 1:59.61 in the final leg to turn the table.

That is the third swimming gold for China on Monday. Earlier Monday evening, Xu Yanwei won the women's 100m freestyle and Liu Yu took the men's 200m freestyle.
