China's Xu Yanwei Takes First Swimming Gold at EAG

Xu Yanwei of China won the first swimming gold medal at the East Asian Games on Monday.

Xu clocked 55.02 seconds in the women's 100 meters freestyle, beating her nearest rival by more than one second.

Xu was also the fastest swimmer in the morning's heats.

Sydney Olympic finalist Sumika Minamoto of Japan finished second at 56.28, followed by another Japanese Tomoko Nagai at 56.68.
