China Loses to Japanese Women's Basketball Team

Akemi Okazato buried eight out of nine three-pointers to score 28 points, leading the hot-shot Japanese to a 106-91 win over China in the women's basketball competition of the East Asian Games Sunday in Osaka.

The Japanese shot 68% (11-16) from behind the arc and 66% in the field with only one missed in the team's 16 free-throws to put China under control.

Five players had double-figure scorings in the Japanese team. Kahori Kawakami and Mutsuko Nagata scored 26 points each with another seven assists under Kawakami.

China's 195cm center Chen Nan had a team-high 24 points for China, and Hu Xiaotao added 23.

Japan led from the start of the game before they extended the gap in every quarter with perfect shots.

Kazakhstan blew away South Korea in a hard-fought game, 103-100, while Australia thrashed Chinese Taipei 90-58.

In the men's field, China succumbed Mongolia with more than a double score, 131-52. Australia won their second game in row by beating Chinese Taipei 107-67, while Japan defeated Kazakhstan 100-
