Iran Calls for Joint Muslim Support for Palestinian Uprising

Iran on Monday called on Muslim nations to make joint efforts to support Palestinian struggle against Israeli atrocities.

Iran's Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi is to fly to Doha, Qatar, on Saturday to attend an emergency meeting of the 56-member Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), where he will announce Iran's support for the Palestinian struggle, the Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said here at a press conference.

Qatar, current OIC chairman, will host the OIC meeting of foreign ministers in Doha on May 26 to discuss the dangers of the escalating Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The Doha meeting will be an appropriate opportunity for Muslim nations to make a crucial decision in support of Palestinians and condemnation of Israeli atrocities against them, Asefi said, adding that "during his Qatar visit, Kharazi will divulge the new tactic adopted by the (Israeli) racist regime in continuation of her expansionist policies."

The spokesman noted that Iran "has always reiterated that the Palestinian Intifada (uprising) is a proof of the Palestinians' disillusionment with the approaches adopted over the past decade" and "Islamic governments and Muslim nations should further watch out for the new tactic."

"The Islamic countries should make joint efforts to boost their solidarity and take practical steps to clear the way for restoration of the denied rights of Palestinians," he stressed.

Israel bombed Palestinian cities in the West Bank and Gaza strip Friday with warplanes. The violence continued Saturday morning with two Palestinians shot dead by Israeli troops, it was reported.
