'100 Overseas Doctors' Journey to West' Scheduled for AugustThe activity of "100 Overseas Doctors' Journey to West" will take place this August, said an official with the Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs under the State Council of China (hereinafter referred to as the Office) on May 19.He said that the Office actively serves the large-scale development of the central and western regions of China and returned overseas Chinese students in their operation of business. It will organize nearly 100 overseas doctors to visit western China and to carry out exchanges with 10 provinces and autonomous regions there. He claimed the Office had organized PH.D delegation to the western region in 1999, mainly on an agricultural tour, but this time, their activity will cover more fields. Besides, the relevant departments of the Office are actively boosting the counterpart exchanges between specialized overseas groups and western provinces and autonomous regions of China to promote mutual development. It's reported that over 30 such groups and 10 provinces and autonomous regions have so far taken part in this activity with more than 10 overseas specialized groups having signed contracts with related provinces in this area. Recent years have seen an upsurge of returned overseas Chinese students operating businesses in the motherland, so it is the focus of work of the Office to render them service, help them develop and solve their difficulties and problems cropped up in the process of their business operation. The official disclosed that the Office will hold, in Wuhan this August, the second public lecture on the achievements gained by returned overseas students in their pioneering work. By then, more than 100 persons plus the participants in the activity, "100 Overseas Doctors' Journey to West" will gather together to discuss important matters concerning the start-up of undertakings.
