Cambodian Prime Minister Gives Banquet in Honor of Li Peng

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen gave a grand banquet in Phnom Penh Sunday night in honor of Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China.

Li arrived here Friday afternoon for a four-day official goodwill visit, which is aimed at enhancing bilateral ties and expanding cooperation between China and Cambodia.

In their speeches at the banquet, the two leaders hailed the healthy development of Sino-Cambodian relations.

The Cambodian prime minister said that his government will continue its One-China policy and he commended China's assistance to his country in the past decades.

In reply, Li said that with the joint efforts by the Chinese and Cambodian governments, the bilateral relations will be further strengthened.

During his stay here, Li met King Norodom Sihanouk and leaders of the Cambodian Senate and the Cambodian National Assembly.

Li's trip here is the first leg of his three Asia-nation tour, which will also take him to Brunei and South Korea.
