China, Japan, South Korea Win in EAG Volleyball Tournaments

China, Japan, South Korea, together with Chinese Taipei, won their respective matches in the men's and women's volleyball tournaments on the opening day of the 3rd East Asian Games.

China's women's team easily brushed aside Chinese Taipei 3-0 in less than one hour. The set scores were 25-14, 25-15 and 25-23.

Japan also had an easy victory over Mongolia in the men's competition, beating their rivals 25-11, 25-18 and 25-14.

The Japanese women's team needed 56 minutes in beating Australia 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-18).

The Australian delegation is one of the two guest delegations to enter the games. The other is Guam.

South Korea, one of the three Asian volleyball powerhouses, beat back the challenge mounted by Australia in the men's competition, winning in straight sets. The set scores were 25-21,

25-20 and 25-21.

South Korea didn't enter their best spikers into the games, butthey were still much better than the error-plagued Australians.

In another men's match, Chinese Taipei beat Kazakhstan 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-20).

Seven men's and five women's teams are participating in the volleyball tournaments of the 9-day East Asian Games.
