Li Peng Hails 10th Anniversary of Law on Disabled
Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), has written a letter to mark the 10th anniversary of the issuing of China's Law on the Protection of the Disabled.

The letter, which was read at a workshop to mark the occasion Saturday, said that the law has provided legal protection for the rights and interests of handicapped people and for increasing their welfare.

The promulgation of the law was a milestone in China's efforts to help the handicapped, said Li, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

Li hailed the achievements made by China in improving the conditions of the handicapped over the past 10 years. He urged Party committees, people's congresses and governments at all levels to continue attaching great importance to the welfare of handicapped people and make effective efforts to improve their conditions substantially.
