China Floral Fair to Attract More Participants

More than 150 overseas companies, along with Chinese floral delegations from across the country, have applied to attend the Fifth China Floral Fair scheduled to be held in Shunde of south China's Guangdong Province, from September28 to October 7.

According to the organizers, the fair will feature indoor and outdoor exhibitions, trading of flowers, and other activities.

China Floral Fair is held in different Chinese cities every four years. The fifth fair is jointly held by China Floral Association and Guangdong government.

Jiang Zehui, head of China Floral Association, suggested that the fair highlight professionalism and commercialization instead of just emphasizing ornamental functions of flowers and turn the fair into an event that will showcase China's industrialization of agriculture.

The floral industry is now a growing business in China amongst its drive to adjust agricultural structure and a growing consumption demand in the wake of overall improvements in people's living standards. By 2000, the area of flowers grown in China have been 147,500 hectares.

Guangdong, which has experienced drastic economic progress since China introduced the reform and opening-up drive in 1978, has fine climatic conditions for the growth of flowers.
