China Shows Latest Goals in Automation TechnologyThe Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Automation (CASIA) opened all its laboratories to the public, Friday, showing their latest technological achievements.Friday's opening was part of the 2001 National Science Week, May 14-20. The academy exhibited multi-variable psychometer, applied technologies based on the Internet, a computer-controlled music fountain, the IC analysis system, as well as technologies on identity recognition depending on iris, speech recognition and fingerprint recognition. Tan Tieniu, director of CASIA, said his institute, which consists of three laboratories for basic research, six engineering centers and a group of high technology companies, is now focusing on computerized information processing, complex systems, intelligence science, intelligence control and integrated automation technology. Research fellows in the institute are also taking responsibility for a great number of national key science and technology projects. Meanwhile, CASIA is enthusiastic about cooperating with overseas research bodies and companies. A Chinese-French joint laboratory of information, automation and applied mathematics has been set up. The institute also took concerted efforts with Japan' s Matsushita Electric Industrial Company to develop computerized speech processing technology. In addition to the high-tech exhibition, the institute organized academic symposia and lectures on popular science. |
