CPPCC Chairman Mourns over Death of Japanese Friend

Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), sent a message of condolence Friday to family members of Dan Ikuma, president of the Japan-China Cultural Exchange Association (JCCEA), to mourn over the sudden pass-away of Ikuma.

In his message, Li also extended sympathy to the members of his family. He praised Ikuma as an "old friend of the Chinese people," saying he "made significant contribution to the development of Sino-Japanese friendly relations and the cultural exchange between the two countries."

Ikuma and his JCCEA delegation began their latest visit to China on May 10. He passed away on Thursday because of a sudden heart attack while they were in Suzhou City, east China's Jiangsu Province. He was 67.

Vice-Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and chairman of the China-Japan Friendship Association Song Jian, China's Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, and President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship With Foreign Countries Chen Haosu and Ikuma's other Chinese friends also sent messages of condolences.

Relevant leaders of the China-Japan Friendship Association went to Suzhou, together with leaders of Suzhou City, to pay their last respect to the remains of Ikuma.
