Event to focus on Journalism in ChineseThe First Forum on the Global Chinese-Language Media will be held September 16-18 in Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu Province,as China Daily reported.The conference, a world's first, will provide a platform for exchanges and co-operation between overseas Chinese-language media and those in the Chinese mainland, said China News Service Editor-in-Chief Liu Beixian. Overseas Chinese-language newspapers and other media boast a history of about 200 years, ever since the first batch of Chinese moved overseas in the early 19th century. "They have played important roles in the promulgation of Chinese culture and history and the promotion of economic and social progress of their resident countries," Liu said. He added the Chinese-language media have become an indispensable part in the life of overseas Chinese people and contributed to the friendly exchanges and co-operation between China and other nations. At present, there are more than 500 Chinese-language newspapers, magazines, radio stations and TV stations around the world. At the three-day forum, editors-in-chief from about 100 major overseas Chinese language media will exchange ideas and views on their present conditions and future development, and discuss the possibilities of closer co-operation with the Chinese mainland's media. |
