An Argentine air force plane crashed minutes after taking off Thursday from an airport near the border with Chile, killing all five officers on board, according to local sources.
The Fokker F27 caught fire after leaving the runway, crashing in a field. The pilot may have been attempting an emergency landing when the plane plunged to the ground and caught fire, local news said.
An air force spokesman said that there weren't any weather problems, so they thought it was a technical problem. But they can't rule out any possibilities, he added.
The dead were identified as two pilots and three junior officers, according to a news agency.
