Five Killed, 30 Injured in Colombia's Car Bomb Blast

At least five people were killed and 30 others injured when a car bomb blew off late Thursday night in Medellin city, northeastern Colombia. local authorities said.

Medellin Mayor Luis Perez told reporters that a Volkswagen vehicle with at least 30 kilograms of explosive exploded at 10:15 p.m. local time (0315 GMT Friday) in front of a crowded restaurant at the city's Lleras square.

He said all the injured have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Local police believed that the blast could be a retaliatory action by criminal rings to the authorities' ongoing crackdown drive.

The explosion marks the second car bomb attack in the country in two weeks. On May 4, a car bomb was set off in a car park of a hotel in the third largest city of Cali, leaving four dead and 32 others injured.
