Sino-Denmark Economic, Trade Forum Opens

A forum featuring economy and trade between western China and Denmark opened Thursday in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Officials and entrepreneurs in the fields of environment and energy from China and Denmark are attending the three-day forum and will discuss on use of wind energy sources in Xinjiang, regional heating supply and construction of infrastructure.

Cooperation between Denmark and Xinjiang in the field of wind energy source technology started in the 1980s. The country's first wind electricity generating plant was set up in the autonomous region in 1989, with major equipment and technology imported from Denmark.

Since 1994, China has set up 40 Sino-Denmark joint projects, three in Xinjiang with total loans of 1.15 million U.S. dollars from Denmark.
