Nissan Motor to Enter Chinese Market

Nissan Motor Co. is holding talks with Chinese companies in a bid to secure footholds in China, Carlos Ghosn, president of the Japanese automaker, said Thursday.

Nissan is set to strengthen operations in Asia, particularly in China, which is expected to grow as an auto market in the future, Ghosn told a press conference.

Nissan's move came at a time when other major Japanese auto manufacturers such as Toyota Motor Co. and Honda Motor Co. are stepping up their efforts to increase production and sales in China ahead of the country's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), expected later this year.

Ghosn said Nissan's three year plan from fiscal 2003 will include a global sales target of one million vehicles.
