Kenyan Deputy House Speakers Meet Chinese NPC Delegation

Kenyan deputy house speakers David Musila and Kitobu Imanyara met with a Chinese National People's Congress (NPC) delegation Thursday afternoon in Nairobi.

The delegation led by Xu Jialu, vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, arrived here on Wednesday as a brief stopover on its way to Rwanda, Togo, Ghana and Madagascar.

During the meeting, Musila recalled his visit to China last August, saying China has made great changes with rapid economic development.

He noted that both Kenya and China are true friends and developing countries, and Kenya can learn a lot from China's experience in developing its economy.

He also invited the China-Kenya friendship group to visit Kenya in coming August, hoping the relations and cooperation between the governments and the parliaments of the two countries will be further strengthened.

Xu Jialu said that China and Kenya have a similar historical background and the two countries should further enhance exchanges and cooperation so as to make greater contributions to safeguarding the world peace.

He briefed the Kenyan friends on China's strategy to develop the western part of the country being implemented by the Chinese government and also on the progress in China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Musila said the Kenyan government supports China's entry into the WTO, which will be surely beneficial to the weak countries.

Prior to the meeting, both Musila and Imanyara took the Chinese visitors around Kenya's parliament buildings and introduced them the history of the parliament.

The Chinese delegation will leave here for Rwanda on Friday.
