Insurer Sponsors Three Tenors Concert

The People's Insurance Company of China (PICC) announced in Beijing Thursday that it would provide 110 million yuan worth of insurance for the Three Tenors concert, scheduled on June 23.

This is the largest amount ever by a domestic insurance company to cover such an event, said a PICC spokesman.

The Three Tenors -- Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras -- are to perform a concert inside the walls of Beijing's Forbidden City this summer.

The event will be staged in the former imperial palace on Olympic Day, as part of Beijing's drive to win the 2008 Olympic bid.

According to the China National Culture and Arts Co. Ltd., the sponsor, all big commercial performances should seek insurance in line with international practices.

The PICC's insurance coverage includes the safety of audience, performers, correspondents, police and guests;employers' liability insurance and insurance for deference or cancellation of the performance.

It may also cover natural disasters risks, like fire or earthquake.
