Beijing Mayor Says IOC Report Objective and Fair
Beijing Mayor Liu Qi Thursday expressed his satisfaction with the assessment report released by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) evaluation commission, praising it as "objective and fair".
Upon bounding for an IOC meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland Thursday, Liu said that he is happy to learn that the Evaluation Commission unanimously believe Beijing, Paris and Toronto are all able to organize an excellent Olympic Games.
"In my opinion, this judgment is objective and fair,"said Liu, who is also the President of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Bid Committee.
The report, which looks into the technical merits of the five bidding cities and was published on Wednesday, has concluded that a Games in Beijing will leave a "unique legacy" to China and sport.
"The report expresses the conviction that Beijing is able to host an inspiring Olympic Games, an Games that features a clean, beautiful environment and is technologically advanced, "said Liu.
Speaking on the challenges in store for Beijing, the mayor expressed confidence that they could fulfill all the commitments they made to the IOC, including those regarding environmental quality.
"We will, as always, do our utmost to improve the city's air quality, a task for whose accomplishment we have drawn up elaborate plans and are providing a powerful budgetary support," said Liu.
