Lebanon Projects 600 Million US Dollars for Reconstruction Projects

Lebanese Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) said on Thursday that it will submit a report on reconstruction projects totaling 600 million US dollars to Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

The funding has already been allocated through special loans and has been earmarked for financing infrastructure, health, telecommunications, education and industry projects, CDR said in a press release.

The council board of directors said that the CDR will work out a schedule for the projects by the end of August and contract most of the projects by the end of the year.

The council will also draw up a three-year development program and submit it to the cabinet by the end of August.

The CDR was set up in early 1977 as a government agency to prepare the country's general plan, investment and implementation programs for reconstruction and development projects.

Since its establishment, CDR has collected more than 4.5 billion dollars of grants and various loans from the World Bank, European Union, Arab countries and international organizations.
