FM Spokesman: IOC Appreciates Beijing's Olympic Games Bid Efforts

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sun Yuxi said Thursday that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission's report on Beijing shows full recognition of Beijing's bidding efforts.

Beijing will go on demonstrating its capacity to host the 2008 Olympic Games, he said at a press conference.

The IOC report said that Beijing has made great progress since its last bid in 1992, according to Sun. The support of 94 percent of Beijing citizens makes the city unparalleled in this regard, he said.

Beijing has earmarked a large amount of money for the construction of roads, sports facilities and for environmental protection, Sun added.

Sun described the report as fair, objective and accurate. He said Beijing will make further efforts for its bid.
