Large Human Trafficking Case Heard in Guiyang

The Intermediate People's Court of this capital of southwest China's Guizhou Province began a hearing Wednesday on the largest human trafficking case in the year 2000.

In a 15-page indictment by the public prosecutor, 24 defendants were accused of abducting and trafficking in 42 infants, 41 young boys and one girl from 1997 through 1999.

Chen Qifu, the head of the gang, sold 27 children; Yin Zucheng, a woman, sold 19; and Qi Dengying, also a woman, sold 9, according to the indictment.

The hearing will last three days.
