Survey Shows Wide Awareness of Basic Law by HK PublicA recent survey conducted by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government reveals that 79.4 percent of the general public and 80.2 percent of all students had good knowledge of the Basic Law or had heard of the Basic Law.The survey, conducted in the fourth quarter of 2000, also shows that the corresponding figures for teachers and civil servants even reached 99.8 percent and 99.7 percent respectively, a government spokesman said Wednesday while announcing the survey results. "The objective of the exercise is to ascertain the level of understanding of the Basic Law among the general public and three specific target groups, namely, students, teachers and civil servants, and to evaluate the effectiveness of various promotional measures," the spokesman said. The spokesman said that the survey confirmed that television was the most effective medium for the promotion of the Basic Law, with most of the respondents saying they obtained Basic Law information through TV. |
