Joint Military Commission for Congo Peace May Relocate to KinshasaThe Joint Military Commission (JMC), established by warring parties in the Congolese war to oversee peace process in the country, will meet next week to decide when it will relocate from Lusaka to Kinshasa, the Zambia Daily Mail reported Wednesday.JMC Chairman Brigadier-General Njuki Mwaniki was quoted as saying that the meeting set for next week here will decide upon the date when the JMC will relocate to the DRC. The JMC decided to shift to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to make it easy for its members to monitor the ceasefire between the main warring parties in the minerals-rich nation, he said. Two months ago, the JMC announced it will move to the DRC but General Mwaniki said the meeting next week will disclose details on why it had not been relocated as planned. Already the United Nations has finished deploying peacekeepers on the rebel-held territories with the latest contingent of 116 Moroccan troops arriving last Saturday. |
