President Jiang Meets Heads of Delegations for Children's Development ConsultationJiang made the remarks during a brief meeting with a group of leaders of delegations who are here attending the Fifth Ministerial Consultation in East Asia and the Pacific on Shaping the Future for Children. The Consultation opened Monday morning with some 250 participants including government representatives and senior officials from relative UN agencies, donor governments and non- government organizations. Jiang spoke highly of the efforts and achievements made by governments in the region in the area of children's development. He said as the development of children is a major issue related to the long-term development of a nation, it is of great importance to have a new generation of citizens who are fit, healthy and well-educated. China supports the cooperation among different countries of the region in children's development, Jiang stressed, saying it will also help to strengthen the friendly relations among the countries. Krasae Chanawongse, head of the Thai delegation, said on behalf of the heads of delegations that they are particularly thankful for the care and support from President Jiang and the Chinese Government. |
