Friendly Ties Between Guangzhou, Auckland to Be Marked

Guangzhou, one of the major southern Chinese gates to the outside world, will celebrate its friendly ties with Auckland City of New Zealand Saturday by launching "Guangzhou-Auckland Friendly Day".

According to local sources, a 26-member delegation from Auckland City, including city officials and Maori performers, will participate in the event.

Local visitors will be able to watch performances by Maori people, and view picture and video shows featuring Auckland on Saturday, said the sources.

Auckland and Guangzhou, also capital of south China's Guangdong Province, have conducted extensive exchanges and cooperation in a wide range of fields since the two cities forged ties of friendship in February 1989.

A delegation from Guangzhou was invited to attend a special program called "Guangzhou Day" sponsored by the city government of Auckland in November 1999.

Saturday's activity will be jointly held by organizations including the foreign affairs office and youth federation of Guangzhou City, the city government of Auckland and the New Zealand Trade Development Association.
