US Assistant Secretary of State Visits China

Chinese vice-ministers of Foreign Affairs Li Zhaoxing and Wang Yi exchanged views on China-U.S. relations and other major issues with James Andrew Kelly, U.S. assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, who was on visit here Tuesday.

During the meeting, the Chinese side expounded China's principled stand on the current state of bilateral relations, the Taiwan question and other issues, stressing that China is willing to develop sound and stable relations with the United States, while the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques and the basic principles governing international relations must be observed.

The U.S. side stated that the U.S. stand of developing constructive relations with China remains unchanged, and the United States will continue to adhere to the "one China" policy, abide by the three joint communiques and will not support the " Taiwan independence".

The two sides held frank consultations on the missile-defense issue, and expressed willingness to continue consultations in this regard.
