China's First Anti-Family-Violence Hotline Introduced

China's first anti-family-violence hotline was opened recently in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

It is opened by the Shaanxi Provincial Women's Federation. Cao Lili, chairwoman of the federation, said that the hotline provides guidance to abused women in a bid to enhance their capability to deal with family violence and minimize the occurrence of violence and the harm that violence does.

From the morning of May 14, women needing help can consult the service by phone or make an arrangement in advance for face-to-face consultancy.

According to a staff working for the hotline, after the hotline was launched, the phones have been ringing, with 30 calls coming for help on the afternoon on May 14 alone. Another ten calls have been made for arrangement in advance. Those calls are mainly related to family violence.

The first ten women consultants are all senior consultants specializing in serving abused women. All the consultants are female intellectual volunteers.
