Beijing Stages Expo of Arts in May

The Beijing International Arts Exposition will be held in Beijing from May 1 to 5, according to the latest Beijing Review.

It will be a grand gala for Chinese and overseas arts circles. There have been three previous arts expositions in the Chinese capital.

Serving as co-presidents of the May exposition's organizing committee are Deputy-Director Tian Henian of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee and Deputy- Secretary Long Xinmin of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee. Jin Shangyi, chairman of the Chinese Painters ' Association and president of the China Arts Academy, will serve as the chairman of the Appraisal Panel.

Plans are for the exposition to cover a total area of 7, 000 square meters, consisting of more than 300 booths. Group and individual participants from China's mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and various foreign countries including Japan, Russia, Ukraine, the United States, France and the Republic of Korea will show a large number of Chinese and Western painting works, calligraphy works and handicrafts during the exposition. A group of monographic exhibitions of high academic value and strong appeal will also be launched.

The China Arts Academy and Beijing Painting Academy will also take the opportunity to hold exhibitions of representative works of some outstanding painters like Xu Beihong, Li Keran , Liu Haisu and Wu Zuoren.
