Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov arrived in Japan Monday on a five-day visit for talks with Japanese leaders on bilateral ties and the promotion of regional peace in Central Asia.
Rakhmonov, who is the first president of Tajikistan to visit Japan, is scheduled to meet Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko on Tuesday and hold talks with Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi the following day, Japanese Foreign Ministry officials said.
During his stay, Rakhmonov will also attend a World Bank- sponsored meeting of donor countries of the Consultative Group on Tajikistan in Tokyo and give a speech at the United Nations University, the officials said.
