Senior CPC Official Visits Intl. Hi-Tech Week
Wei Jianxing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), visited the ongoing Fourth Beijing International Hi-Tech Industries Week and International Scientific and Technology Exposition Monday night.

Wei visited the exhibition of scientific achievements during the country's Ninth Five-Year Plan period (1996-2000), Zhongguancun technology exchange fair and exhibitions displaying local hi-tech developments.

He talked with scientists at 30 exhibit booths featuring electronic communications, engineering equipment, environmental protection, energy sources, medicine and biological engineering.

He encouraged the scientists to make further contributions to the country's and the world's scientific development.

In the first five days of the event, about 500,000 people visited the exposition, participated in by governmental officials and enterprise delegations from over 50 countries and regions.
