Beijing Reception Welcomes APEC HR Summit Delegates

Wang Zhongyu, a state councilor and secretary general of the State Council, hosted a reception here Monday evening to welcome all attendees of the APEC High Level Meeting on Human Capacity Building, which is due to open here Tuesday.

The two-day event, jointly proposed by President Jiang Zemin and the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam at last year's APEC Informal Leadership Meeting, will be one of far-reaching importance in APEC history, said Wang, while addressing the reception.

He said the Asia-Pacific region abounds in human resources and great potential for further development. "APEC attaches great importance to human capacity building", he said, "which is of strategic importance for the sustained economic development of all APEC members and the region as a whole."

Present at Monday's reception were officials from the Chinese Ministry of Personnel, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education, and over 300 representatives from APEC member economies.
