Chinese Defense Minister Meets Thai Guest

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian said Monday that China is willing to work with Thailand to develop a closer cooperative bilateral relationship in the new century.

In a meeting with Thawat Khietangun, permanent secretary of defense of Thailand, Chi said that the Sino-Thai friendship has been developing constantly ever since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 26 years ago.

China is satisfied with the bilateral military relations between the two sides, Chi said.

He said that the two militaries have conducted friendly exchanges in various areas and these exchanges have furthered the mutual understanding and trust and generated positive results for the security of the region.

Chi thanked Thailand for its support to China on the human rights, Taiwan, and Falungong issues, as well as on major international issues.

Thawat said that the two militaries have maintained frequent contacts in recent years, adding that there exists close and friendly sentiment between the two sides.

Expressing his gratitude to China for its support and assistance in various areas, Thawat said that he hopes the two militaries will further their friendly cooperation in the future.
