Chinese President Meets Kuwaiti Guest
President Jiang Zemin met Monday morning with Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahd Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Kuwaiti minister of information.

Jiang reiterated that the Chinese government supports the independence, sovereign and territorial integrity of Kuwait, and understands the reasonable concerns of Kuwait regarding its national security.

China also supports the relevant measures taken by Kuwait to safeguard security and its reasonable demands, he added.

Jiang said that China hopes that the Iraq issue would be resolved on the basis of the relevant resolutions of the United Nations.

Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahd Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah expressed gratitude for the support of the Chinese government toward Kuwait's just stance and the hope to expand cooperation between Kuwait and China in all fields.

He also reaffirmed that Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah has invited Jiang to visit Kuwait.

Lawmaker stresses Sino-Kuwaiti ties

A senior lawmaker expressed Monday his satisfaction with the exchange and cooperation in economy, trade and culture between China and Kuwait over the past years.

Tomur Dawamat, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China 's National People's Congress NPC), China's top legislature, reviewed the Sino-Kuwait ties while meeting with Kuwaiti Prince Sheik Ali AL-Jaber Ahmad Al-Sabah, governor of Jahra, Kuwait, and his party.

Dawamat also briefed the guests on China's economic achievements, the 10th Five-Year Plan (2001-2005) and the country' s strategic program of developing the vast west region.

Wang Yunze, vice chairman of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), was present at the meeting.
