Shanghai to Build Int'l Auto Center within 5 YearsThe municipality of Shanghai announced May 13 that the metropolis would build an international auto center during the"10th Five Year Plan" period in its suburban area of Anting.By then, Shanghai will become an important auto market in China and even in Asia Pacific region. Anting, the site of the auto center, will have the opportunity to facilitate the area's construction. The move to set up the auto center aims to meet the challenge after China's WTO entry and grasp the great opportunity of China's increasing consumption of cars, thus to push China ahead to go along with the global matrix of auto-trading. The core function of the auto center will be car trading. By using the advantage of Shanghai's ports, production, market and financial services, it tries to attract many auto dealers domestic and foreign alike to come into the center. In the meanwhile, by way of integrating auto trading, exposition, research, shipment, tourism and services into one it is aiming at turning the center into a place for popularizing the auto-culture and its technology. Car manufacturing and research is an important part in the center. Plus its auto shipping function, it will become one of China's leading auto manufacturing-and-trading centers. The tourism function of the center will help enrich the city's tourism resources. By extending services to car let, repair, training and club services, the center will facilitate China's auto development to meet with international trend in sales mode, auto consumption credit and insurance business. According to the report, in the coming two to three years, the center will invite international cooperation and investors, and the project will be completed within five years.
