Abducted Georgian Parliamentarian Freed

Georgian parliamentarian Petre Tsiskarishvili and his bride Aniko Surmava, abducted on May 7 near Georgian capital of Tbilisi, was freed early Sunday without any conditions or ransom, the Itar-tass reported.

Georgian Interior Minister Kakhi Targamadze was quoted as saying that the release was a result of "a search operation carried out by law enforcement bodies."

Targamadze also cited preliminary investigation as saying that the kidnapping of Tsiskarishvili, 26, and his bride Surmava, 21, " was of criminal rather than of political nature."

The couple was kidnapped and then brought to the Pankis gorge by a group of mobster when they drove around Tbilisi in a BMW car in the evening of May 7.

Georgian State Security Minister Vakhtang Kutateladze said "all the kidnappers are Georgian citizens" and they have not been detained so far.

Targamadze said nine people have been kidnapped in Georgia and brought to the Pankis gorge over the past few years, seven of whom have been released.

Meanwhile, the police are seeking for the release of two Spanish businessmen, Jose Antonio Tremino and Francisco Rodriguez, who were abducted in the vicinity of Tbilisi on November 30, 2000.
