Shanghai CPC Official Meets Kuomintang Vice-Chairman

Huang Ju, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, met Sunday with Vincent C. Siew, the executive vice-chairman of the Kuomintang party of Taiwan.

Huang briefed him on Shanghai's reform, opening up and economic development. He voiced the hope that Shanghai and Taiwan would further trade and economic cooperate.

The cross-straits economic exchanges and cooperation tally with the mutual benefit and common wishes of the people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.

Siew is in the mainland as head of a business delegation from Taiwan attending the Fourth Beijing-Taiwan Sci-Tech Forum May 8-12. He arrived in Shanghai Saturday and will visit the Pudong New Area, Fudan University and a commercial center.
