A top official with Somalia's transitional government has held a close-door meeting with top officials of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Kenya 's Sunday Standard newspaper reported.

Somalia's Prime Minister Ali Khalif Galaydh and the U.N. officials discussed the demobilization strategy for Mogadishu where more than 11,000 militiamen had been disarmed.

Galaydh said that all the weapons recovered from the militiamen had been decommissioned.

He said that the seven-month old transitional government under President Abdulkassim Salat Hassan was currently training the militiamen to join the country's army and police force.

He appealed to the U.N. officials to further assist his government in carrying on the demobilization exercise, adding that Muslim countries had been assisting in the past.
