Jinan Seeks Foreign Funds for 70 ProjectsThe coastal city of Jinan is planning to build a 30.6-kilometer-long urban fast-track transportation line in the next five years. The project needs an investment of 360 million US dollars and the municipal government is seeking cooperation with foreign investors, Wang Tianyi, vice mayor of Jinan, said at a press conference in Beijing over the weekend. The project is among the city's 70-project investment package carefully prepared to attract foreign funds during the ongoing Beijing International High-tech Industries Week. The 70 projects, with a total planned investment of two billion U.S. dollars, have all been reviewed by industrial experts and are believed to have remarkable market prospects, Wang said. They belong to the fast-growing industries such as urban infrastructure, electronic information, pharmaceuticals, bio- engineering, new materials, trade, tourism and real estate. As the capital city of Shandong Province, one of China's economic powerhouses, Jinan has made great efforts to improve investment environment in the past decade and has enjoyed a sound development in building an export-oriented economy, the vice mayor said. A series of preferential measures have been worked out to encourage foreign investors to set up joint ventures in Jinan, especially in the field of high-tech industries, Wang said. The 70 projects Wang brought to the Beijing International High- tech Industries Week have caught the eyes of a number of transnational companies. Some of them have sent researchers and negotiators to discuss with Wang's delegation. |
