Ethiopia's Intelligence Chief Murdered by Party Colleague

The man who murdered Kinfe Gebre-Medhin, head of Ethiopian National Security and Immigration Authority, on Saturday also belong to Gebre-Medhin's party -- the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), the Ethiopian News Agency reported.

Major Tsehay Woldesilassie, who joined the TPLF in 1976, worked as a team head of the purchasing and market research division of the country's Defense Ministry before killing the intelligence chief.

Gebre-Medhin was shot and killed by Woldesilassie on Saturday as he entered the Armed Forces Officers' Club in Addis Ababa.

Gebre-Medhin, also politburo member of the Tigray People' s Liberation Front (TPLF), had worked with the country's security and intelligence authorities both at home and in abroad since the coming into power in 1991 of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front, which is in a governing coalition with the TPLF now.
