HK Industrialist Donates HK$20M to Mainland University

Noted Hong Kong industrialist Chao Kuang-piu recently donated 20 million HK dollars to Zhejiang University for the establishment of a foundation to attract more high-tech talents to the university.

The Chao Kuang-piu High-Tech Talent Foundation is aimed at attracting top talents from around the world to teach and conduct research in the university located in the provincial capital of Hangzhou.

The focus will be put on talents in information technology, life and material sciences, mathematics, economic management, advanced manufacturing technology and others, said Pan Yunhe, president of the university and head of the foundation management committee.

According to university sources, Chao has also pledged 100 million HK dollars of investment to launch a photoelectric information project in the university science park.

Chao is the chairman of Novel Enterprises Ltd., co-founder and chairman of Hong Kong Dragon Airlines (Dragonair).
