Myanmar Reshuffles Govt Cabinet

The ruling Myanmar State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) Thursday made a reshuffle of its government cabinet, appointing two new ministers and removing one.

State-run Radio Myanmar quoted an announcement of the SPDC as reporting Thursday night that U Tin Win was appointed as minister at the Prime Minister's Office, replacing the former one Brigadier- General Lun Maung who was killed in a helicopter crash in February, while Minister of Telecommunications, Posts and Telegraphs Brigadier-General Win Tin was removed from post and replaced by Brigadier-General Thein Zaw.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology U Hlaing Win was reassigned as Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, and the post of U Hlaing Win was substituted by Dr. Chan Nyein.

The reshuffle of the Myanmar government cabinet is the first since January 2000 when two deputy ministers were appointed.

However, the posts of those Myanmar high-ranking officials killed in the helicopter crash in February, including the late Second Secretary of the SPDC Lieutenant-General Tin Oo, have not yet been filled.

In 1999, the Myanmar government reshuffled its cabinet for four times.
