Qian Qichen Meets Kuomintang Vice-chairman

Qian Qichen Meets Kuomintang Vice-chairman
Vice-Premier Qian Qichen reiterated the mainland's position on China's reunification Friday in a meeting with Vincent C. Siew, the executive vice- chairman of the Kuomintang of Taiwan.

The cross-straits relations cannot be stable and won't develop unless the leader of the Taiwan Authorities accepts the One-China Principle and recognizes the 1992 consensus reached by the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation and the cross-straits talks and negotiations are resumed, Qian said.

To develop the cross-straits trade and economic exchanges and cooperation and to realize direct exchange of mail service, trade, and air and shipping is in line with the aspiration and interests of the majority of parties, groups and ordinary people in Taiwan, Qian stressed.

The vice-premier expressed his hope that the Taiwan Authorities would take more practical measures for the development of the cross-straits economic exchanges and cooperation, instead of putting up obstacles.

Siew is here as head of a business delegation from Taiwan attending the Fourth Beijing-Taiwan Sci-tech Forum.
