Israel Shells Palestinian Position After Grenade Attack in Gaza

An Israeli army tank shelled a Palestinian position Friday morning in retaliation for an earlier grenade attack by Palestinians at an Israeli army post in southern Gaza Strip, in which two Israeli soldiers were injured, Israeli Radio reported.

One soldier sustained medium injures while the other primarily suffered from shock, the radio added.

The Israeli army post which came under attack was next to a road between the Jewish settlement of Kfar Darom and the Palestinian Khan Yunis refugee camp.

According to the radio report, a car stopped next to the post on the road used by Israeli settlers and the Palestinians, and two Palestinians got down from the car and threw the grenades. And then, they drove the car and fled the scene.

In response to the attack, an Israeli army tank next to Kfar Darom shelled a Palestinian position at Dir al Balah in the middle of the Gaza Strip.

The Gaza Strip, one of the first places to be handed over to the Palestinians, has been a major clash point during the more than seven months of Israeli-Palestinian bloody conflicts, which have claimed the lives of over 490 people, mostly Palestinians, and wounded thousands more.

There are 15 Jewish settlements in the strip with about 5,000 Israeli settlers still living there.
