Government Officials Must Be Hard Working, Clean: GovernorGovernment officials must be hard working and clean, according to Bo Xilai, governor of northeast China's Liaoning Province.Bo made this remark at the Liaoning Commodities Exhibition being held in Nanchang, capital of east China's Jiangxi Province. He said, "Working hard means performing official duties diligently. Being clean means being honest in performing official duties." "Only when officials work hard, will people be able to gain tangible benefits. Only by being clean, will officials be able to enjoy prestige among the people." "China is now shifting to a market economic structure. Officials' work style is vital to economic growth," he noted. According to Bo, the reason why Liaoning has chosen Jiangxi to hold a commodity exhibition is that Jiangxi is a major revolutionary base area in China. The fine revolutionary tradition in the area is a valuable ideological wealth for Chinese Communist Party officials at all levels. He said that by remembering the past in the name of revolution and looking into the future with the vision of development, officials at all levels will be able to cherish deeper feelings for the people, thus constantly enhancing their creativity. He added, "People's praise is better than a golden cup or a silver cup. Officials are duty-bound to benefit the people in the term of their office. " "If people sincerely praise us for diligent work we have done for years, we can say that we have performed our due duties effectively for the people and Communist Party," he said.
