Liaoning to Offer Three Million Jobs in Five Years
Northeast China's Liaoning Province will provide three million jobs in the next five years by adjusting its economic structure and energetically developing its service sector, according to Provincial Governor Bo Xilai.
Liaoning, a heavy industrial center, ranks first in China in the number of state-owned enterprise workers and the number of laid-off workers.
"The reemployment situation is severe in industrial cities such as Shenyang, Dailian, Fushun and Anshan," Bo said. He said that laid-off workers would adversely affect economic development and social stability.
In order to solve the unemployment problem, Liaoning will take employment as its priority project. It will keep adjusting its economic structure, industrial setup and product mix, and gradually adjust its work force structure. Bo believed that the goal of offering three million jobs can be turned into a reality. For example, Dalian, a coastal city, had one million workers in state-run enterprises. It made proper arrangements for the transfer of half a million workers by energetically developing the service sector in nine years.
