US Must Strengthen Cooperation With China, Says Former US Secretary of Commerce

The United States must cooperate with China in any case and keep on exchanges as well, said Mickey Kantor, former US secretary of Commerce and trade representative, at the conference of the Fortune Global Forum 2001 in Hong Kong. Kantor emphasized that there is no alternative for Sino-US relationship. It is a crucial time for the two countries. The US should deal with the bilateral relations cautiously.

Kantor indicated that the plane collision is a very serious case to the bilateral ties of the two countries. The US will probably face with risks if it failed to deal with the problem with caution. He stressed that the US has no other way out but to strengthen the intercourse with China. He denoted that the US should help China join the WTO as quickly as possible. Nothing should defer China's WTO entry. As regards the economic globalization, investors should pay close attention to the contradictions occurring in trading and the attitude and requests of the related personages towards some hot issues, such as unemployment, economy, environment and ecology, etc. In the new round of the WTO talks, developed countries should consider the benefits of developing countries too.
